Bendel Insurance’s Monday Odigie shifts focus to Federation Cup final against Rangers
By Wale Mustapha
Head Coach of Insurance FC, Monday Odigie is focusing on guiding his team to the 2023 Federation Cup success to make up for their below par performance at the Nigeria Premier Football League title winning playoffs.
The Benin Arsenals will be taking on Rangers Int’l in the cup final slated for Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba on 21st of June.
As the hope of securing continental ticket through the NPFL playoffs is dashed, Insurance’s holy grail to be on the continental engagement rest on beating Rangers to the coveted title.
The former Nigeria U17 handler who expressed disappointment with how his side fared in the Lagos showdown insists winning the Federation Cup would be a great reward for their hard work in the just concluded season.
“Its disappointing we could not play to our usual standard at the playoffs, a lot of things culminated to that, I am personally sad and I’m sure everyone attached to the club would be,” Odigie told the club media.
“Thankfully, we don’t have much time to dwell on the past, we will aiming for the Federation Cup title and I believe we should be in good stead for it.
“We are in competitive mood already and I expect that to help us go into the final and win, its not expected to be easy, but I’m confident we can win it as consolation for the hard work we’ve put into this season.”
Insurance FC broke Akwa United’s 18 games unbeaten record and set 21 game unbeaten run until the Super Six Playoffs where they suffered a 2-1 defeat to Rivers Utd on Matchday 4 and another 1-0 loss to Remo stars on the last day of the season.
