By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Ethiopia’s senior women’s national team secured a 4-0 win against Chad in the return leg of the Paris 2024 Olympics qualifiers first round on Sunday.

The East Africans had recorded a 6-0 win over the same opponents in the first leg of the first-round encounter in Ethiopia and put a seal on its passage to the second round.

Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE) star, Loza Abera opened the scoring for the visitors in the 11th minute of play.

Senaf Wakuma increased her side’s lead to three with a brace in the 20th and 45th minute respectively to take Ethiopia into a comfortable halftime lead.

Turist Lena’s 89th-minute goal sealed the win and completed a 10-0 aggregate victory, setting up a clash with the nine-time African champions in the second Round.

The Super Falcons were on bye for the first round and will join the qualifiers fray in the second round against Ethiopia.

Nigeria has featured at the women’s event of the Olympic Games three times in 2000 (Sydney, Australia), 2004 (Athens, Greece), and 2008 (Beijing, China).

The West African women’s football giants made it out of the group stage once in 2004 at the Olympics but couldn’t survive group stage progression in 2004 and 2008.

Since 2008, the Super Falcons have not been able to qualify for the Olympics in 2012, 2016, and 2020.
