Nigeria senior women’s national team forward, Gift Monday has assured that her side will fight to finish in the bid to overcome England in Monday’s FIFA Women’s World Cup Round of 16 showdown.
Randy Waldrum’s side picked a slot in the Round of 16 for consecutive time, the first time the team will achieve such a feat.
Following the nine-time African champions progression to the last-16, they were rewarded with a date with European champions for a place in the quarterfinal of this year’s competition.
Monday played her first match against debutant, Republic of Ireland in the last group game and the UDG Tenerife forward is confident that the Super Falcons can overcome any threat from the Lionesses.
“I’m feeling confident and ready for the match against England,” Monday told
NigeriaFootball.
“The lesson learned from the group stage was that whatever you put your mind to achieve is indeed achievable. The team is on the same page, all we have to do is fight till the last whistle.”
The winner of the game between Nigeria and England will face either Colombia or Jamaica in the quarter-final.
The West African giants have not made it past the quarter-final stage of the tournament and will hope to equal and surpass the feat achieved in 1999 against the European champions on Monday.
