After a good display for Nigeria’s senior women’s national team at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, Nigerian wing-back, Michelle Alozie returned to her NWSL side with a bang.
In her first league game for the American side after the global showpiece, Alozie scored the equaliser to help Houston Dash to a 1-1 draw with Kansas City Current in the early hours of Sunday.
Houston Dash at home found it difficult to get into the game as the visitors started on a bright note, creating goal-scoring chances that were denied by the goalkeeper.
After a goalless first half, the deadlock was eventually broken in the 53rd minute.
Houston Dash defender headed out a corner kick which fell to Lo’eau Labonta outside the box before she hit a right-footed half-volley that reached the bottom corner of the net.
The goal spurred the host to surge in search of the equaliser which came in the 67th minute.
A brilliant move from the middle of Kansas City Current’s half saw Alozie raced into the edge of the box before firing a right-footed shot into the net, beating AD Franch in goal.
The goal was her second in the league this season as she played the full 90 minutes of the game.
She has also bagged an assist for the team this season and it is Alozie’s third season since her switch in 2021.
Houston Dash occupy the ninth position on the log with 20 points after 17 games. They will next face the San Diego Wave on September 4, 2023.
