Nigeria suffer slip in latest FIFA rankings

Nigeria’s senior national team dropped a place on the latest FIFA Rankings released on Thursday, September 21, 2023.

Before Thursday’s released rankings, the Super Eagles had occupied the 39th position during the last Rankings on July 20, dropped one place to the 40th position in the world.

Nigeria played a match during the last window which was a 6-0 thrashing of Sao Tome and Principe to round up the 2023 African Cup of Nations(AFCON) Qualifiers.

Beating the minnows didn’t make any impact on the ranking, the West African nation with the current ranking occupy the sixth position in Africa behind Morocco, Senegal, Tunisia, Algeria, and Egypt.

Africa’s top-ranked team, Morocco moved to the 13th position in the world ahead of Senegal which dropped two places from 18 to 20th in the world.

Tunisia (29), Algeria (34), and Egypt (35) all make progress on the ranking.

Cameroon (41), Mali (49), Ivory Coast (50), and Burkina Faso (58) complete Africa’s top-ranked men’s football teams.
