Sone Aluko’s Goal Drought Persists as Reading Falls to Millwall

Nigerian forward Sone Aluko’s quest for his first goal with Reading continues, as he faced an eighth consecutive English Championship match without finding the back of the net. Despite an encouraging performance, Aluko was unable to break his goal-scoring drought in Tuesday’s 2-1 defeat against Millwall at The Den.

Reading managed to take the lead in the 73rd minute, courtesy of a strike from David Edwards. However, a swift brace from George Saville saw Millwall secure the victory.

Aluko, who arrived at Reading from Fulham this season for a club-record fee of £7.5 million, has yet to register a goal in any of his appearances for Jaap Stam’s side.

Currently, Reading occupies the 18th spot in the English Championship table, having garnered nine points from 10 games.

Meanwhile, Nigerian midfielder Hope Akpan made his fifth appearance of the season for Burton Albion, coming on for John Brayford in the 33rd minute during their 4-0 loss against Aston Villa at the Pirelli Stadium.

In another Championship fixture, new Super Eagles defender Ola Aina made his 10th start for Hull City, who narrowly lost 2-1 against Preston North End. Despite Jarrod Bowen’s equalizer, Callum Robinson’s late strike secured the win for Preston.

The result leaves Hull City in 17th place in the English Championship, with 10 points from 10 games, as they look to improve their standing in the league.
