Odion Ighalo’s Brilliance Fails to Rescue Changchun in Chinese Super League Clash

Nigerian Super Eagles striker Odion Ighalo, despite his recent heroics for the national team, couldn’t prevent Changchun Yatai from a 3-1 away defeat to Guangzhou Evergrande in the Chinese Super League on Friday. Ighalo played the full 90 minutes for Changchun Yatai, marking his 22nd league appearance with 11 goals.

Guangzhou Evergrande, led by a brace from Ricardo Goulart in the 26th and 59th minutes (from the penalty spot), established a commanding 2-0 lead. Changchun Yatai managed to pull a goal back through Anzur Ismailov in the 61st minute, igniting hopes of a comeback.

However, Alan extended Guangzhou’s lead in the 65th minute, securing a 3-1 victory and preventing Ighalo and his Changchun Yatai teammates from staging a recovery. The loss saw Changchun Yatai drop to 10th place in the 16-team Chinese Super League, with 28 points.

Despite the recent defeat, Ighalo’s impact on the league has been significant. The Nigerian striker’s last league goal for Changchun Yatai came on August 13, during a 1-1 home draw against Yanbian Funde.

Ighalo’s ability to balance his performances in both domestic and international football has been a testament to his skills and dedication. Despite the setback in this game, his contribution for both the Super Eagles and Changchun Yatai continues to be recognized and valued.
