Aina Credits Mentorship from Football Legend John Terry for Remarkable Career Growth
In an exclusive interview with Sky Sports, Super Eagles defender Ola Aina has opened up about the profound impact former Chelsea captain John Terry had on his career development. Aina, at the age of 21, had the privilege of playing alongside the 37-year-old Terry during Chelsea’s triumphant English Premier League title-winning campaign last season.
As the 2017/18 season unfolded, both players took divergent paths, with Aina securing a loan move to Hull City and Terry opting to extend his playing career at Aston Villa post his departure from Stamford Bridge. Reflecting on his time with the football luminary, Aina spoke highly of Terry’s leadership qualities, both on and off the pitch.
“Terry is a leader and a captain as well. From what I know of him personally, he’s a nice person. John Terry is a good guy,” Aina remarked, underscoring the positive influence of the seasoned defender. Aina emphasized the invaluable lessons he garnered from Terry, particularly in the realm of defensive prowess.
“I learned a lot [from Terry] on and off the pitch. Mainly on it. He’s a world-class defender and taught me various things. Having had some time with him last season, Terry told me to just be honest on the pitch, always try my hardest, always work to the best of your ability and always give 100%,” Aina revealed.
