Transfer: Mathias Oyewusi joins French Ligue 2 side Valenciennes

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Nigeria international, Mathias Oyewusi has completed his switch to French Ligue 2 side, Valenciennes on a four-year deal.

Oyewusi joined the French second-division side from the Lithuanian club FK Zalgiris Vilnius in 2021 as they announced his arrival at the club until 2027 on Friday.

On his arrival, the Nigerian took part in his first training session with his new teammates in the morning after his signing.

His form and performance since arriving in the Lithuanian league has caught the attention of the top European teams but the French Ligue 2 club seems to have a better offer.

The striker scored 35 goals and 14 assists in 82 appearances for FK Zalgiris. He has been playing since 2021 at Zalgiris Kaunas, in Lithuania, whose national championship ended recently.

Previously, he had played for Slovenian clubs, ND Gorica, FC Postojna, ND Bilje and NK Ankaran.

Having endured a struggling start to the season, scoring nine goals scored in 14 days, Valenciennes is still looking for the right formula ahead as its central attackers are yet to score this term.
