Governor Diri Dissolves Bayelsa United Board and Coaching Staff After Poor Season

Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has dissolved the board and coaching crew of Bayelsa United Football Club following the team’s disappointing performances in recent competitions.

The decision was announced on Wednesday ahead of the Bayelsa State Executive Council meeting in Yenagoa, as the state government moved to address the club’s declining fortunes.

Governor Diri expressed his dissatisfaction with the team’s recent results, stating that the dissolution was necessary to reposition the club for improved performances and long-term success.

According to the governor, an interim management committee will be established to oversee the affairs of the club pending the appointment of a new substantive leadership structure.

The committee has been charged with the responsibility of restructuring the team and implementing measures aimed at ensuring Bayelsa United secures an immediate return to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) next season.

The move highlights the state government’s determination to restore the club’s competitiveness and return the Prosperity Boys to their former status among Nigeria’s top football teams.

Bayelsa United have enjoyed notable successes in the past, including winning the President’s Federation Cup, but recent struggles have prompted calls for reforms to revive the club’s fortunes.

With a new interim administration set to take charge, attention will now shift to rebuilding the squad, strengthening the technical setup, and laying the foundation for a successful promotion campaign in the coming season.
