Nigeria forward Victor Boniface scored and provided an assist as Bayer Leverkusen beat Werder Bremen 5-0 to land their first-ever Bundesliga title.
Boniface’s goal-scoring prowess has proven invaluable to Leverkusen as they clinched a historic Bundesliga title.
Just last season, he was playing for Union St Gilloise in Belgium. But Alonso was compelled by his potential and Bayer paid over €20m to secure the striker’s signature.
In January, Boniface suffered a muscle tendon injury in the right adductor area during Nigeria’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) pre-tournament camping in Dubai.
However, he continued to be the revelation in his rookie season as he scooped several Rookie of the Month and Player of the Month awards in the Bundesliga.
Along with Nathan Tella, Boniface became the first ever Nigerian to win the German topflight after legends like Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha, Jonathan Akpoborie, Sunday Oliseh and Victor Agali failed to achieve the feat.
Unbeaten in all competitions this season, Leverkusen remain on course for a remarkable treble in Boniface’s first full season in charge, with the German Cup and Europa League still in their sights.
To celebrate the feat, the Super Eagles star took to his social media pages after the game with a caption that reads “Na God run am.”
