Nigeria U-17 women’s national team defeated their counterparts from South Africa 2-0 in the return leg of 2025 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers at the Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne-Remo, Ogun state on Saturday.

Goals from Harmony Chidi and Aishat Animashaun in either half sealed a 2-0 win for the Flamingos in the Second round match of the qualifiers.

Harmony Chidi’s goal in the 38th minute broke through South Africa’s defense, ending their strong resistance and giving Nigeria the advantage going into the break.

The goal was set up by Shakirat Moshood, who delivered a curling free kick into the South African box, finding Chidi’s head for the finish.

The first half was a battle, with both teams playing with a lot of intensity and determination.

South Africa put up a strong defensive wall, but Chidi’s moment of brilliance was enough to break through.

Bankole Olowookere’s side doubled their lead as Animashaun scored the second goal in the 57th minute, solidifying Nigeria’s dominance and securing their spot in the next round of the tournament.

The win completed a 5-1 aggregate victory for Nigeria after the first leg ended 3-1 in favour of the 2022 FIFA World Cup bronze medalists.

They will face either Botswana or Algeria in the third and final round which will determine the side that will qualify for the 2025 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
