CAF CC: Stanley Eguma upbeat about Rivers United chances despite Club Africain loss

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Technical Adviser of Rivers United, Stanley Eguma is confident the Nigeria Premier Football League side can make it out of Group C to the knockout stages in the 2023/2024 CAF Confederation Cup.

The Pride of the Rivers succumbed to a 3-0 loss to Tunisian side, Club Africain in the fourth group game of the competition on Wednesday.

Despite the loss, Eguma is confident his team can qualify for the quarter-final with two games to spare.

“We are also a good team despite our undoing today,” Eguma said during his post-match reaction.

“On a good day, we gave a very good account of ourselves and I believe that the future is still bright for us.

“We can go back and correct our mistakes and come out stronger in subsequent matches and before you know it, we will get there. I strongly believe that we will qualify from our group.” He concluded.

A brace from Nigeria’s player, Kingsley Eduwo, and a goal by Rami Bedoui lifted the Tunisia side to a 3-0 win.

The loss dropped Rivers United to the third position with six points, three points behind Club Africain and Dreams.

Dreams’ 4-0 bashing of Academica ensured a change in the group at the end of the fourth round of games.

The former Nigeria champions will hope to win their last two group games to stand a chance of making it to the last eight.
