Fulham attacking midfielder, Alex Iwobi hopes to emulate his uncle, Austin Jay Jay Okocha by winning the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) title.
Iwobi has found himself a role model who he always aspires to imitate in Okocha, a fast, talented, and skilled player who often played as an attacking midfielder.
The 27-year-old is privileged to have the talented former Paris Saint-Germain playmaker as his maternal uncle.
Okocha who won the 1994 AFCON title with Nigeria is regarded as one of the greatest exports from Africa, being regarded as one of the greatest dribblers of all time and renowned for his mesmerizing displays on the pitch.
Iwobi, who looks up to his uncle believes winning the prestigious title will give him a right to brag to his uncle at family functions.
“I know my uncle has won it, and I’d like to have one to my name as well,” the former Everton midfielder told BeIN.
“Obviously, we have the quality to do so, and hopefully we can do that, and I want to brag to him as well.
“When he was in Bolton, I used to go and watch some of his games and watched him train a couple of times at the training ground.
“He enjoyed football and always liked showing off to express himself, almost like an entertainer. He tells me to play football with a smile on my face, so that’s what I’m doing, and it has stuck by me.”
