Nigeria U-20 women’s national team started their quest to defend their gold medal at the 2023 African Games women’s football event with a 2-0 win over Morocco.
Two goals in the first half were all Christopher Danjuma’s side needed to beat the North African side in Ghana.
It took the first 19 minutes for the 2024 FIFA Women’s World Cup campaigner to take the lead in Cape Coast.
An early pressure on the Moroccan defence saw Chioma Olise beat goalkeeper Fatima Bambara to open the scoring.
With five minutes before the end of the first half, Yina Adoo was set up by Shola Shobowale to double the lead from distance for the West African side.
The second period of the game was a close one without any goal as Nigeria held on to their two-goal lead to celebrate a winning start.
Up next for the holders Falconets is their final group game with Senegal on March 11, 2024.
With the withdrawal of Cameroon, teams in Group B will play two games to determine two sides that will make it to the semi-final and closer to the podium finish.
