Fulham boss explains reason for subbing Iwobi off early against Nottingham Forest
By Saheed Afolabi
Fulham manager, Marco Silva has explained the reason why he had to take off Nigeria midfielder Alex Iwobi off early in the game against Nottingham Forest.
The Cottagers were humiliated 3-1 against the Tricky Trees at the City Ground stadium which resulted in the early withdrawal of Iwobi, Harry Wilson and Sasa Lukic in the 33rd minute.
Silva said Iwobi and his teammates that were subbed off in the game weren’t at fault.
He defended the changes he made citing the need for fresh legs to hold on the ball which Didi have any effect on the game.
“It’s important to say, when I made the triple change, it wasn’t the fault of Harry Wilson, Sasa Lukic and Alex Iwobi at all,” Silva was quoted by Fulham.
“In that moment, the team needed much more changes than just three. As a collective, we were not there. It was a tactical change. We needed Tom Cairney and Willian to at least have the ball.”
Fulham have 39 points from 31 matches and will square up against Newcastle in their next game at the Craven Cottage on Saturday, April 6.
