Super Falcons Set for UK Training Tour Ahead of 2026 WAFCON

Nigeria’s senior women’s national team, the Super Falcons, are set to travel to the United Kingdom later this month for a short training camp as preparations continue for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The six-day camping programme will take place from May 23 to 28 and is expected to include at least one friendly match as the team intensifies preparations for next year’s continental competition.

Despite falling outside the FIFA international window, the Nigeria Football Federation is reportedly using the opportunity to keep the squad active and improve team cohesion ahead of the tournament, which will also serve as part of the qualification pathway for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The UK tour is also seen as a response to the team’s inactivity during the March FIFA window, when planned friendly matches failed to materialise.

A number of established players may be unavailable for the trip because of club duties, although they are expected to rejoin the squad during the next FIFA international window from June 7 to 14.

Head coach Justine Madugu is expected to use the camp and friendly fixture to evaluate fresh talents and broaden his squad options as preparations for WAFCON gather momentum.

The Super Falcons remain Africa’s most successful women’s national team, having secured a record 10th WAFCON title last year.

The upcoming UK camp will give the coaching crew another chance to strengthen team chemistry, monitor emerging players, and maintain Nigeria’s dominance in African women’s football while keeping focus on qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
