Transfer News: Everton eye Raphael Onyedika as potential Andre Onana replacement

English Premier League (EPL) club Everton is eyeing young Nigerian midfielder Raphael Onyedika as a potential replacement for star midfielder Andre Onana in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Everton is currently undergoing major squad restructuring to balance their financial books, with several high-profile players expected to depart Goodison Park. Notable exits include Jarrad Branthwaite and Amadou Onana, whose departures may leave a significant void in Everton’s midfield, especially with the contracts of Idris Gueye and Andre Gomes not set to be renewed by summer.

Andre Onana, who has attracted interest from clubs like Barcelona, Manchester United, and Arsenal, could command a transfer fee of around £50m, providing Everton with the financial means to pursue a younger, more cost-effective replacement, such as Raphael Onyedika.

The Club Brugge midfielder has enjoyed an impressive season, contributing three goals and two assists in 40 appearances. Onyedika’s style of play draws comparisons to Onana, particularly in terms of progressive passes, blocks, and tackles, with the 22-year-old even surpassing the Belgian in some statistical categories.

According to sources in Liverpool, Crystal Palace, Nottingham Forest, and Galatasaray have also expressed interest in signing Onyedika, posing potential competition for Everton in securing his services.

If the deal materializes, Onyedika would join a distinguished list of Nigerian players who have represented Everton, including Daniel Amokachi, Yakubu Aiyegbeni, Joseph Yobo, Victor Anichebe, Ademola Lookman, and Alex Iwobi.
