CAFCL: Ilechukwu promises to work on Rangers’ profligacy before next round

By Wale Mustapha

Technical Adviser of Enugu Rangers, Fidelis Ilechukwu, has expressed confidence that the club will address their issues with missed scoring opportunities before the next round of the CAF Champions League.

The Flying Antelopes advanced to the next stage of Africa’s premier club competition despite a 1-1 draw against US Zilimadjou in the second leg of their first-round clash on Friday. Rangers had secured a 1-0 victory in the first leg, progressing with a 2-1 aggregate score.

While Rangers’ performance on Friday did not reflect their potential, as they squandered numerous scoring chances, Ilechukwu remained upbeat, offering assurances that the start of the new season will provide the necessary momentum to improve.

“We are happy to have qualified for the next round of the competition, even though we did not perform up to our usual standards against the Comoros champions,” Ilechukwu stated.

“This highlights the unpredictability of football. I am concerned about our conversion rate, but I am optimistic we can resolve this issue before the next registration window. The new league season will be crucial in helping us achieve better cohesion and performance.”

Enugu Rangers will now await the outcome of the matchup between Saint Louis Suns United and Segrada Esperanca to determine their opponents in the next round.
