NPFL: Kennedy Boboye reveals why Sunshine Stars must beat Abia Warriors

By Wale Mustapha
Kennedy Boboye, Technical Adviser of Sunshine Stars, has stressed the necessity for his team to secure a win against Abia Warriors to demonstrate their readiness for the new Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.
The Owena Whales will host their Umuahia counterparts in Matchday Three this Sunday in Ijebu Ode.
Boboye, a two-time league winner, highlighted the significance of the match points against his former club, stating, “Any team that wants to win the league must maintain a strong position in the standings to show their title aspirations.
“This is why we must win tomorrow’s encounter against Abia Warriors.”
Reflecting on their previous game against Remo Stars, he noted, “Since our game plan didn’t work out, we will approach the match against Abia with greater seriousness and determination to secure victory.”
He added, “We can’t claim we want to win the league while struggling in sixth or seventh place; we must consistently aim to be among the top three on the table.”
Addressing the challenge of playing home matches away from their usual venue, Boboye said, “I focus on building my team beyond just home matches. That’s why you see us performing well everywhere, as if we’re playing at home.
“The only difference between Ijebu Ode and Akure is the presence of home fans, but if we play like we did against Bayelsa United, we will emerge victorious against our Sunday opponents.”
