Enyimba 4-1 Black Bulls: People’s Elephant end 10 match winless streak to brighten Confederation Cup hopes

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

After 10 matches in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) and CAF Confederation Cup without a win, Enyimba FC finally got a victory with a 4-1 win over the Black Bulls of Mozambique in Matchday four of the 2024/2025 CAF Confederation Cup on Sunday.

Joseph Atule opened the scoring for the People’s Elephant in the sixth minute.

Nigeria’s Ejaita Ifoni equalised for Black Bulls in the 12th minute as his compatriot, Hammed set him up.

Akanni Elijah assisted Ifeanyi Ihemekwele who restored the host’s lead in the 45th minute of play.

2013 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) winner, Brown Ideye scored his first ever goal for Enyimba FC in the 67th minute as he dribbled past the goalkeeper before finding the back of the net from Atule’s assist to extend the host’s lead.

Atule’s second goal of the match sealed a 4-1 win for the Nigerian side in the 90th minute.

The victory is the first for the two time African champions since Stanley Eguma took over as the head coach after a 0-0 draw with Bendel Insurance in the last league game in 2024.

Zamalek topped the log with eight points from four games, three ahead of fellow Egyptian side, Al Masry.

Black Bulls and Enyimba both had four points apiece.

Enyimba will have to get positive results from their last two group games against Al Masry and Zamalek to stand any chance of qualifying for the quarter final.
