Victor Boniface optimistic about Nigeria’s World Cup qualification push vs Rwanda

By Monsurah Olatunji

Nigeria forward Victor Boniface has expressed confidence in the team’s ability to secure victory and keep their hopes alive for World Cup qualification as the country prepares for a crucial showdown against Rwanda on Friday.

Despite struggling to find the net for the Super Eagles in his 11 appearances since his debut in September 2023, the Bayer Leverkusen striker has been in stellar form at club level, scoring 10 goals and providing one assist in 22 Bundesliga appearances this season.

Boniface, 24, is yet to score for Nigeria but remains a key figure for the Super Eagles. He made an important assist in his debut match against Benin Republic, and is hopeful that his club form will translate to success for the national team.

Nigeria currently sits in 5th place in Group C of the qualifiers, with no wins from their first four matches, making the upcoming fixture against Rwanda a must-win for the Super Eagles.

Boniface emphasized the significance of the match, acknowledging the pressure on the team to deliver.

“We know how important this game is to us and also as a country,” Boniface said, according to Allnigeriasoccer.

“We need to be at the World Cup, and I can speak for myself and the other players—we’re ready to give our best and hopefully secure a win.”

Boniface also addressed the team’s preparations under new head coach Eric Chelle, describing the early days of training as challenging but vital to the team’s focus and determination.

“It’s been really tough,” Boniface admitted. “But no matter who the coach is, we know how big Nigeria is as a country. We always want to give our 100%, and that doesn’t change. The most important thing is that we’re all ready, and we’re all looking forward to the game.”

With the Super Eagles facing a critical juncture in their World Cup qualification campaign, Boniface’s determination and leadership will be crucial as they aim to bounce back and secure the vital three points against Rwanda.
