Kelechi Iheanacho Delighted After Late Winner Fires Celtic Past Motherwell

Kelechi Iheanacho has expressed his joy after scoring a dramatic late winner to help Celtic F.C. secure a thrilling 3-2 victory over Motherwell F.C. in Wednesday night’s Scottish Premiership clash at Fir Park.

The Nigerian striker started the encounter on the bench but emerged as the match-winner after calmly converting a late penalty to seal all three points in a fiercely contested contest.

Iheanacho confidently sent goalkeeper Calum Ward the wrong way from the spot, sparking jubilant celebrations among the travelling Celtic supporters.

The important win further boosted Celtic’s hopes of retaining the Scottish Premiership title ahead of their decisive final fixture against Heart of Midlothian F.C..

Speaking after the match, Iheanacho admitted he was overwhelmed with emotion after making the decisive impact.

“To be fair, I don’t have words, I don’t know how, but we’ve done it,” Iheanacho told Sky Sports via BBC.

“As you can see, the fans are still shouting, and we’re happy, and we have one more to go. We need to get back now and focus on that.”

Reflecting on the pressure of taking the late penalty, the Nigerian forward added:

“I just kept cool, and it’s scary, but thankfully we got the victory, so we’re happy.”

Iheanacho, who joined Celtic as a free agent, has endured an injury-disrupted campaign since arriving at the club.

Despite those setbacks, the former Leicester City F.C. striker has still made an important contribution for manager Martin O’Neill, registering eight goals and one assist in 22 appearances across all competitions this season.
