“Supreme goal scorer” – Odegbami congratulates Osimhen on historic Super Eagles feat

By Wale Mustapha

Nigerian football legend Segun Odegbami has congratulated Victor Osimhen for breaking his long-standing goal-scoring record with the Super Eagles.

Osimhen’s brace in Nigeria’s 2-0 victory over Rwanda in Kigali on Friday helped the forward surpass Odegbami’s record, taking his tally to 25 goals for Nigeria.

The 26-year-old striker is now Nigeria’s second all-time top scorer, trailing only Rashidi Yekini’s record of 37 goals.

Odegbami, who scored 23 goals for Nigeria in 46 matches, expressed his joy over Osimhen’s achievement and praised the Super Eagles for their victory.

“On behalf of the entire Eagles squad of 1980, I congratulate Nigeria for the incredible victory in Kigali and Victor Osimhen for his individual achievement,” Odegbami said.

“Supreme goal scorer and centre-forward Victor Osimhen surpassed my record of 23 goals in 46 matches for the country, I’m really happy for him.”

Osimhen, who continues to shine on the international stage, may have the opportunity to add to his tally if coach Eric Chelle includes him in the squad for the upcoming match against Zimbabwe on Tuesday.
