2025 AFCON U20: Flying Eagles will soar to victory in Egypt – Hon. Kabiru Amadu

By Dayo Awoniyi

Chairman of the House Committee on Sports, Hon. Kabiru Amadu, has voiced strong optimism over Nigeria’s U20 national team, the Flying Eagles, ahead of the CAF U20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) scheduled to take place in Egypt.

Speaking in Abuja, Hon. Amadu expressed full confidence in the team’s ability to lift the trophy for a seventh time, citing their current form, discipline, and technical direction under head coach Aliyu Zubairu.

“Our boys are talented, focused, and hungry for glory,” Amadu said. “With the level of preparation, the support of the Nigeria Football Federation, and the fighting spirit that the Flying Eagles are known for, I strongly believe we are in for a victorious tournament in Egypt.”

The lawmaker praised the Nigeria Sports Commission and the NFF for facilitating early preparations, including rigorous training camps and top-tier international friendlies.

“This is the kind of structure we need to win major tournaments — early preparation, quality training, and the right leadership. I must commend the NFF and the Sports Commission for doing the right thing this time,” he noted.

Hon. Amadu also reiterated the National Assembly’s dedication to youth sports development, pledging continued legislative support for programs focused on identifying and nurturing young talent.

“We are committed to building a sustainable future for Nigerian sports. Through legislation, we will continue to push policies and budgets that empower our young athletes and coaches,” he said.

He concluded by urging Nigerians at home and abroad to rally behind the team.

“This is a national mission. Let’s come together and support the Flying Eagles with our prayers, encouragement, and passion. They are not just representing us—they are playing for our pride.”

The Flying Eagles are seeking their first AFCON U20 title since 2015 and will begin their campaign in Egypt later this year.
