Rumour Mill: Juventus shift focus from Osimhen to Canadian striker Jonathan David

By Wale Mustapha

Italian Serie A giants Juventus appear to be dialing back their pursuit of Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen this summer, as they intensify negotiations with Canadian forward Jonathan David.

The Turin-based club has been actively chasing Osimhen throughout the transfer window in search of a reliable goal-scorer for the upcoming season.

However, talks with the Super Eagles forward have stalled over wage demands and high valuations, prompting Juventus to explore alternatives.

According to Turkish transfer expert Levent Ümit Erol, Jonathan David, whose contract with French side Lille expired this summer, is close to agreeing terms with Juventus.

David reportedly rejected offers from Turkish clubs Fenerbahçe and Galatasaray in favor of the Italian outfit.

“Jonathan David is about to sign with Juventus,” Erol stated, as quoted by Habersarikirmizi.

“If Juventus signs Jonathan David, the possibility of Osimhen joining them will be eliminated.”

Osimhen had an outstanding season on loan at Galatasaray from Napoli, scoring 37 goals and providing seven assists across all competitions.

His contributions helped Galatasaray clinch both the Süper Lig title and Turkish Cup, with Osimhen also securing the league’s top scorer award.

Despite his stellar form, Osimhen’s next destination remains uncertain, with interest reportedly coming from several Premier League clubs as well as other European and Asian teams.

Juventus’ potential pivot towards Jonathan David suggests the club is keen to finalize a striker signing soon as they prepare for the new campaign.
