Igoh Ogbu Backs Super Eagles to Retain Unity Cup Title Against Jamaica

Igoh Ogbu has expressed confidence that the Nigeria national football team can overcome the Jamaica national football team in the 2026 Unity Cup final, provided they remain focused and avoid complacency.

The defender, a two-time Czech league champion with SK Slavia Prague, played the full 90 minutes in Nigeria’s semifinal victory over Zimbabwe national football team, where debutant Femi Azeez scored both goals in a 2-0 win.

Reflecting on the encounter, Ogbu acknowledged the challenge posed by Zimbabwe, especially after the break.

“It was a very tough game, especially in the second half, but we thank God for the victory. It was not easy at all.

“It went well in the end. The boys did well, they pushed hard and now we have to enjoy the win and focus on the next game.”

Looking ahead to the final, the former Lillestrøm SK defender stressed the importance of maintaining concentration against a Jamaican side that defeated India national football team 2-0 in the other semifinal through goals from Courtney Clarke and Kaheim Dixon.

“We have to keep our heads straight, keep working hard and continue doing our best because it is a privilege to play for Nigeria.

“Now that we are in the final, we understand what we need to do.

“We will recover and prepare well because the reason we came here is to win and retain the title.”

Nigeria will be aiming to defend the Unity Cup crown they won against Jamaica in last year’s final, while the Reggae Boyz will be seeking revenge after losing that encounter on penalties.

With both teams arriving in good form, the final promises to be another fiercely contested chapter in the growing rivalry between the Super Eagles and the Reggae Boyz.
