Egyptian referee Amin Mohamed Omar appointed for Nigeria vs Benin World Cup Qualifier

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Top Egyptian referee Amin Mohamed Omar has been appointed by FIFA to officiate the high-stakes 2026 World Cup qualifying clash between Nigeria and Benin Republic.

The crucial encounter will take place on October 14 at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

Omar, who has handled several CAF Champions League matches and international fixtures, will lead an all-Egyptian officiating crew — a move expected to bring synchronization and smooth communication on the pitch.

In addition, Ghana’s Prosper Addo has been named as Match Commissioner, tasked with overseeing the organization, fairness, and overall conduct of the game.

The appointments highlight the magnitude of the fixture, with both teams desperate for points.

Currently sitting third in Group C, Nigeria must win their final two matches and hope results elsewhere go in their favour to secure direct qualification for the World Cup.
