Victor Mbaoma’s strike lifts Remo Stars to win over Kano Pillars in rescheduled NPFL clash

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) champions Remo Stars returned to winning ways with a narrow 1–0 victory over Kano Pillars in a rescheduled fixture at the MKO Abiola Sports Complex, Abeokuta on Wednesday.

Victor Mbaoma scored the decisive goal in the 34th minute, finishing clinically to separate the two sides in a tightly contested encounter.

The forward’s strike proved enough to hand the Sky Blue Stars a much-needed response following their disappointing 1–0 home defeat to Rangers International in their previous outing.

The win also marked head coach Daniel Ogunmodede’s second victory in six matches, having suffered four losses in that period.

Remo Stars now sit 15th on the NPFL table with 16 points from 12 matches, and still have a game in hand.

For Kano Pillars, the defeat deepens their struggles this season as their winless run extends to seven matches—five losses and two draws.

The Sai Masu Gida remain rooted to the bottom of the standings with six points from 13 games.

Next up, Kano Pillars face Ikorodu City, while Remo Stars host Barau FC as they look to build on the momentum from Wednesday’s victory.
