English Championship side Wrexham A.F.C. have congratulated goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo after reports emerged that he has received his maiden invitation to the Nigeria national football team ahead of the upcoming Unity Cup tournament.
Although the Nigeria Football Federation is yet to officially unveil the squad list, Wrexham were quick to celebrate the 23-year-old’s reported inclusion in the senior national team setup.
“Congratulations to Arthur Okonkwo on receiving his first call-up to the Nigeria squad ahead of the Unity Cup,” the club posted on its official social media platforms.
Okonkwo has enjoyed an impressive campaign with Wrexham and is expected to be part of the Super Eagles squad that will compete in the Unity Cup scheduled to take place in London later this month.
The tournament is expected to provide Nigeria with an opportunity to combine home-based and foreign-based players as preparations continue for future international assignments.
For Okonkwo, the invitation represents a major milestone in his career and a chance to establish himself on the international stage with the Super Eagles.
Wrexham supporters and Nigerian football fans alike will now be eager to see how the young goalkeeper performs if handed his senior debut during the London-based competition.
