Nigeria defender Chidozie Awaziem produced one of the weekend’s most dramatic turnarounds, recovering from a first-half own goal to score a late equaliser in Nantes’ 1–1 draw against Lorient.
Awaziem endured a difficult moment in first-half stoppage time when an unfortunate deflection off him handed Lorient the lead in the 45+1 minute, putting Nantes under pressure heading into the break.
But the centre-back responded with impressive composure and determination.
As Nantes pushed for a late breakthrough, Awaziem rose highest in the 90+1 minute, powering home a header that levelled the match and salvaged a crucial point for the home side.
The late goal not only cancelled out his earlier mistake but also underscored a performance defined by resilience, character, and redemption—turning Awaziem from villain to hero in the space of 45 minutes.
