CAF Champions League: RS Berkane score twice in added time to stun Rivers United in Uyo

RS Berkane delivered a heartbreaking blow to Rivers United on Friday, defeating the Nigerian side 2-1 in their second Group Stage match of the 2025/26 CAF Champions League at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

Rivers United took the lead in the 37th minute after Mamadou Camara’s pressured touch resulted in an own goal that broke the deadlock and lifted the home crowd.

The Pride of Rivers maintained their narrow lead deep into stoppage time, but the Moroccan giants produced a dramatic late turnaround.

Youness El Kaabi equalised in the 97th minute, capitalising on Rivers United’s failure to clear their lines.

Just two minutes later, Mounir Chouiar struck, completing a sensational comeback in the 99th minute to seal all three points for the visitors.

The win sends RS Berkane to the top of the group standings with six points from two matches, while Rivers United remain without a point after back-to-back defeats.

The Nigerian side will now look ahead to their next game against Power Dynamos of Zambia as they continue searching for their first point — and their footing — in this season’s campaign.
