Perfect Records on the Line as NWFL Premiership Matchday Six Takes Centre Stage

Two unbeaten sides will put their flawless starts to the season on the line as Matchday Six of the 2025/26 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership takes centre stage across the country on Wednesday.

The standout fixture of the round is the South South derby between Bayelsa Queens and Rivers Angels, one of nine matches scheduled across both groups. There is also a South West derby to look forward to as Sunshine Queens host Remo Stars Ladies in Akure.

Group A

Bayelsa Queens vs Rivers Angels

One of the league’s most consistent rivalries headlines Matchday Six, with both Bayelsa Queens and Rivers Angels boasting perfect records.

The hosts have won all four of their matches so far, a feat matched by the Port Harcourt-based Rivers Angels. Bayelsa Queens, coached by Ogbonda Whyte, hold the edge historically, winning seven of the last 14 league meetings. Rivers Angels have claimed four victories, while three encounters ended in draws.

Their most recent meeting came during the 2024/25 Super Six, where Bayelsa Queens secured a narrow 1–0 win in Ikenne.

Naija Ratels vs Edo Queens

Naija Ratels return to Abuja still searching for their first win of the season after recording three losses and two draws.

Edo Queens, meanwhile, have bounced back strongly from an opening-day defeat to claim three consecutive victories. The Benin City side have won three of the last four head-to-head meetings, including a 2–0 triumph at the 2024/25 Super Six in Ikenne.

Heartland Queens vs Ibom Angels

Heartland Queens will be aiming to pile more pressure on Ibom Angels, who are enduring a difficult run of form.

The hosts recorded their only win on Matchday One and have since mixed a defeat with consecutive draws. Ibom Angels, on the other hand, are on a three-match losing streak following a promising start that included a win and a draw.

Pacesetter Queens vs Ekiti Queens

History will be made as Pacesetter Queens face Ekiti Queens for the first time in the NWFL Premiership.

Still without a win after five games, Pacesetter Queens snapped a losing streak with a goalless draw against Heartland Queens last week. Ekiti Queens arrive buoyed by a 1–0 victory over Naija Ratels, a result that ended their own winless run and boosted hopes of top-flight survival.

Group B

Dannaz Ladies vs Confluence Queens

For the third consecutive season, Dannaz Ladies and Confluence Queens meet in league action.

Dannaz Ladies have failed to win since their opening-day victory, losing their last three matches, while Confluence Queens have suffered four straight defeats after drawing their season opener. Dannaz hold a slight edge in recent meetings, with two wins and two draws.

Nasarawa Amazons vs Osun Babes

Unbeaten Nasarawa Amazons welcome Osun Babes to Lafia in one of the standout fixtures of Group B.

The Amazons have recorded three wins and two draws so far, while both teams are coming off impressive away victories last week. Nasarawa Amazons have won two of the last three head-to-head encounters, though Osun Babes claimed a 1–0 win in their most recent meeting during the 2021/22 season.

Ahudiyannem Queens vs Delta Queens

Former champions Delta Queens travel to Umuahia to face debutants Ahudiyannem Queens in a maiden top-flight encounter.

Ahudiyannem Queens are still searching for their first win after three defeats and two draws. Delta Queens, meanwhile, arrive in good form after back-to-back home victories, though they are yet to win away this season.

Sunshine Queens vs Remo Stars Ladies

The South West derby in Akure pits Sunshine Queens against Remo Stars Ladies.

Sunshine Queens have managed just one win from five matches, while Remo Stars Ladies saw their unbeaten run end last week with a narrow defeat to Nasarawa Amazons. The last two league meetings between both sides ended in 2–1 home wins during the 2023/24 season.

Abia Angels vs FC Robo Queens

In Umuahia, FC Robo Queens will look to extend their perfect start when they face Abia Angels.

The Lagos-based side are the only team with five straight wins this season, though Abia Angels hold a slight advantage historically, winning two of the last four meetings. Their most recent clash ended in a 2–0 victory for FC Robo Queens in the 2022/23 campaign.

With derbies, unbeaten runs, and survival battles all in play, Matchday Six promises drama and decisive moments as the NWFL Premiership season continues to gather momentum.
