Akor Adams Scores First Sevilla Brace in Comeback Draw Against Elche

Nigeria striker Akor Adams scored his first competitive brace for Sevilla, helping the Spanish side recover from a two-goal deficit to earn a 2–2 draw against Elche in their LaLiga clash on Monday night.
Adams, who featured for Nigeria in the AFCON 2025 third-place playoff on Saturday, returned to club duty just hours after helping the Super Eagles secure the bronze medal.
Fellow Nigerian international Chidera Ejuke also made the quick return to Spain, with both players included in Sevilla’s matchday squad at the Estadio Manuel Martínez Valero.
Neither Adams nor Ejuke started the match, but Sevilla head coach Matías Almeyda introduced Adams at halftime with his side trailing 1–0. Elche doubled their advantage ten minutes after the restart through Germán Valera, leaving Sevilla facing defeat.
Sevilla’s comeback began in the 75th minute when Adams reacted quickest to a rebound from a low effort by Oso, tapping the ball into the net to reduce the deficit.
In stoppage time, the Nigerian striker completed his brace from the penalty spot after the referee penalised a handball in the Elche area, calmly converting to rescue a point for the visitors.
Ejuke was introduced in the 63rd minute and, while he did not score, played a key role in Sevilla’s late pressure, repeatedly unsettling the Elche defence with direct runs and quick exchanges.
The brace marked Adams’ first multi-goal performance for Sevilla in a competitive fixture and capped an impressive return to club football following a strong AFCON outing. The 25-year-old was one of Nigeria’s standout performers at the tournament, contributing goals and assists as the Super Eagles finished third.
Sevilla remain in the hunt for improved league positioning, with Adams’ form offering a timely boost ahead of upcoming fixtures.
