Super Falcons to Face WAFCON-Bound Opponent in June FIFA Window

Nigeria’s senior women’s national team, the Super Falcons, are set to face a fellow WAFCON-bound nation during the June FIFA international window as preparations intensify for the Morocco 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
The planned friendly matches are expected to hold between June 7 and 14, with the Nigeria Football Federation working to finalize arrangements for a two-legged international series to be played in Nigeria.
The development comes after the cancellation of the Super Falcons’ proposed training tour of the United Kingdom later this month following the withdrawal of Jamaica from the planned friendly encounter.
A top official of the Nigeria Football Federation, who spoke anonymously, disclosed that discussions are already at an advanced stage to ensure the June friendlies go ahead as part of efforts to properly prepare the team for WAFCON.
“We are now focused on the June window as we’ll secure two-legged friendlies to be played in Nigeria with a WAFCON-bound team. We are still finalizing the process. We are 95 percent sure it will take place,” the official said.
The friendlies are expected to provide head coach Justine Madugu another opportunity to assess his squad, test new players, and improve team cohesion ahead of the continental tournament.
Some senior players who were unavailable for the canceled UK trip due to club commitments are also expected to return for the June international window, which is likely to strengthen the squad considerably.
Nigeria are Africa’s defending champions after winning a record-extending 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title last summer, and the technical crew is determined to sustain the team’s dominance on the continent while also building toward qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The June friendlies are expected to form a major part of the Super Falcons’ build-up programme as the coaching staff continues efforts to fine-tune the squad before the commencement of the WAFCON campaign in Morocco.
