Super Four Showdown Kicks Off in Ikenne as Nigeria’s Rising Stars Battle for Glory

The stage is set for a thrilling conclusion to the Nigeria National League (NNL) season as the 2026 Super Four kicks off in Ikenne today, promising five days of intense competition fueled by ambition, redemption, and bragging rights.

Hosted at the Remo Stars International Stadium, the tournament brings together the four conference champions — Sporting Lagos, Ranchers Bees, Doma United, and Inter Lagos. While all four sides have already secured promotion to the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), the ultimate crown and a ₦10 million prize remain firmly up for grabs.

Played in a round-robin format, the Super Four is designed to test teams’ consistency, squad depth, and tactical maturity, with every point potentially decisive in the race for the title.

NNL Chairman George Aluo expressed optimism ahead of the tournament, highlighting the enhanced prize money as a signal of the league’s growing ambitions. “This is just the beginning of good things to come. We are committed to improving the league and rewarding excellence. I must thank the Director General of the National Sports Commission, Bukola Olopade, NFF President Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau, and our sponsors for their immense support,” Aluo said.

Sporting Lagos arrive in Ikenne riding a wave of momentum after clinching the Southern Conference B title by a single point over Akwa United. A crucial 1–0 away win against Osun United on the final day underscored their composure under pressure, while their proximity to Ikenne promises strong fan support, effectively giving them near-home advantage.

Ranchers Bees, Northern Conference D champions, secured their place in the Super Four after a gritty campaign that saw them edge out Jigawa Golden Stars, Yobe Desert Stars, and Gombe United. The long journey from Kaduna to Ikenne may limit their fan turnout but adds an extra layer of challenge to their Super Four campaign.

Doma United, the Savannah Tigers, enter the tournament on a mission of redemption. Relegated two seasons ago and narrowly missing promotion last year, they were the first team this season to confirm NPFL promotion, demonstrating remarkable consistency and determination.

Inter Lagos overcame one of the toughest routes to qualify, finishing ahead of Beyond Limits, Heartland FC, Sunshine Stars, Crown FC, and Gateway FC in Southern Conference A. Scarred by past heartbreak in Enugu, the side returns with experience and renewed determination to claim the title.

Matchday One, 4 May, sets up an exciting opening clash as Sporting Lagos face Ranchers Bees, a contest of flair against resilience. Later, Doma United meet Inter Lagos in what promises to be a tactical battle, combining structured experience with fearless attacking play.

Despite all four teams having already achieved promotion, only one will leave Ikenne as Super Four champions — a title carrying both prestige and psychological momentum ahead of the NPFL season.
