John Utaka Urges Victor Osimhen to Accept Potential Real Madrid Move

Former Nigerian international John Utaka has advised Victor Osimhen not to hesitate if the opportunity to join Real Madrid CF becomes a reality.

Reports in Spain have linked the Super Eagles striker with a possible move to the Santiago Bernabéu, particularly if José Mourinho returns for a second spell in charge of the Spanish giants, 13 years after leaving the club.

Osimhen has continued to establish himself as one of Europe’s most prolific forwards, scoring 59 goals in 74 appearances since completing his permanent move in 2024.

The Nigerian international has also enjoyed major success at club level, helping his side secure two league titles and a Turkish Cup triumph while impressing in continental competitions.

Speaking during an interview with Brila FM, Utaka encouraged Osimhen to seize what he described as a potentially defining moment in his career.

“If I were Osimhen, I would go because if Mourinho has requested for him, it means he really wants him. Osimhen wants to win trophies and Real Madrid is a perfect fit,” Utaka said.

The former Montpellier HSC forward added that the striker should prioritise both sporting success and long-term career growth.

“Personally, I will plead with Osimhen to leave Galatasaray S.K. and go. Football is about winning trophies and creating history. If the club he’s going to gives him a better chance to win titles and grow financially, then he should take that opportunity.”

Utaka also stressed that trophies and collective achievements often define a player’s legacy more than individual accolades.

“At the end of the day, people remember trophies and the teams that achieved them more than individual awards. That’s why generations still talk about the 1996 Olympics team because success creates history that can never be forgotten.”
