Karim Adeyemi says Champions League ‘not my only target’ after completing Barcelona move

Karim Adeyemi has vowed to justify Hansi Flick’s faith in him at Barcelona, insisting the UEFA Champions League is “not my only target” after completing his move to the club.

The 24-year-old Germany winger was presented as a new Barcelona player and underlined both his ambition and his gratitude to the coach who pushed to bring him in.

“The expectations are high, I am coming to the best club in the world, and I hope to prove to the coach and the fans that I am a player worthy of Barcelona,” Adeyemi said at his unveiling.

Adeyemi, who joins the Catalan side at the start of Flick’s reign, made clear he sees his success as a test of the new manager’s decision to sign him, saying he is determined to show the transfer was fully justified.

Champions League ‘not the only goal’

While Adeyemi acknowledged the importance of Europe’s premier club competition, he stressed that his ambitions with Barcelona extend beyond simply lifting the Champions League trophy.

Explaining his objectives for the coming seasons, the Germany international said: “Winning the Champions League, despite how important it is, is not my only goal with the team.”

He added: “The Champions League is a very important competition, but it is not the only target. At Barcelona every match has its own importance, and I will give everything I have to help win the Champions League and every title possible.”

Adeyemi’s comments underline his awareness of the pressure that comes with joining a club that demands silverware on multiple fronts, including domestic and European competitions.

Adeyemi also expressed confidence about quickly settling into Barcelona’s attack and highlighted his excitement at playing alongside highly rated teenager Lamine Yamal.

He stressed he believes he can form an effective understanding with his new team-mates and adapt to the style expected at the club under Flick.

Eager to play in any attacking role

The new signing made clear that personal status or preferred position will not be an issue as he looks to establish himself in the side.

Adeyemi said winning matches comes ahead of any concern about where he is deployed, whether that is on the left flank – where Raphinha has regularly operated – or on the right.

He underlined his flexibility in the final third and his willingness to occupy whatever role is required to benefit the team, having previously featured across the front line during his career.

“It doesn’t matter to me which position I play,” he concluded. “I have played in all the attacking positions. I am here only to help the team.”
