NFF President Hails Bago’s Sports Infrastructure Drive, Backs Modern Stadium Project
President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ibrahim Musa Gusau, has praised Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago for investing in football infrastructure, describing the ongoing renovation of the Bako Kontagora Stadium as a significant boost for the development of the game.
Speaking after inspecting the facility alongside the governor, Gusau said the federation considered it necessary to assess the project firsthand after learning about the ongoing reconstruction.
“I am delighted to be here today. When we received information that Governor Bago had commenced work on the Bako Kontagora Stadium, we felt it was important to come and see the progress firsthand and encourage him to do even more,” Gusau said.
The NFF president noted that the absence of an approved home ground had placed considerable strain on Nigeria Premier Football League side Niger Tornadoes, forcing the club to honour its home fixtures outside the state.
“We have discussed with the project manager, who explained the scope of the work being carried out. Our visit is to ensure that the renovation meets the required standards and is completed on time, so that Niger Tornadoes can play their home matches in Minna instead of travelling elsewhere for home fixtures,” he stated.
Gusau assured the Niger State Government of the federation’s continued partnership in advancing football development and expressed confidence in Governor Bago’s vision to build a modern stadium that meets international standards.
He added that Niger State’s strategic location close to the Federal Capital Territory could position it as an attractive venue for national team matches, domestic competitions and other major football events once the proposed stadium is completed.
According to the NFF president, improved sports infrastructure remains a key driver for football growth, talent development and the successful hosting of major competitions across the country.
