Super Falcons complain of missing cash at Casablanca team hotel ahead of Wafcon defence

Several Nigeria players have reported that money went missing from their rooms at the Super Falcons’ team hotel in Casablanca as they prepare to defend their Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title.

The squad is staying at the Marriott Hotel in Casablanca during their build-up to the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, and a number of players say they returned to find cash had disappeared from their personal belongings.

According to reports from the camp, some members of the team alleged that money was taken from their wallets while they were away from their rooms, prompting concern within the Super Falcons camp.

Forward Esther Okoronkwo is understood to be the most affected, with an alleged loss of $700. Team-mate Rasheedat Ajibade has reportedly complained that $200 was missing, while defender Osinachi Ohale is said to have lost $100.

Midfielder Joy Omewa has allegedly reported $120 missing, and Halimatu Ayinde is also understood to have claimed that $100 disappeared from her belongings.

In total, the amount of cash said to be missing from the five named players stands at $1,220, which is approximately N1.7m in Nigerian currency.

NFF yet to comment

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has so far not issued any official comment on the alleged incident.

There has been no public confirmation from the NFF on whether a formal complaint has been lodged with the hotel or local authorities, nor any indication of an internal or external investigation being opened.

The Marriott Hotel in Casablanca has not publicly responded to the claims, and no details have been made available about possible security reviews or checks at the team’s base.

Tournament build-up continues

Despite the off-field disruption, the Super Falcons’ preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations are continuing in Morocco.

The full squad is now in camp in Casablanca, where head coach Justine Madugu is overseeing final training sessions before the start of the continental competition.

Nigeria, who are the defending champions, are expected to relocate from Casablanca to Rabat ahead of their opening Group C fixture against Malawi.

The Super Falcons will also face Zambia and Egypt in the group stage as they aim to retain their Women’s Africa Cup of Nations crown.

The alleged thefts have emerged at a key point in Nigeria’s build-up, with the team having only recently assembled in full for their final phase of preparations in Morocco.
