Confederation Cup campaigners El-Kanemi Warriors unveil King Emmanuel as new head coach

CAF Confederation Cup campaigners El-Kanemi Warriors have officially unveiled King Emmanuel as their new Technical Adviser as the Maiduguri club begins preparations for an immediate return to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

The unveiling ceremony took place on Friday at the Colonel Abdulmumin Aminu Camp in Maiduguri, where club officials presented the experienced tactician to supporters and stakeholders.

Emmanuel replaces Kabiru Dogo, who departed at the end of the 2025/26 season after guiding the Borno-based outfit to President Federation Cup glory before taking over as head coach of Niger Tornadoes.

Although El-Kanemi Warriors lifted one of Nigerian football’s biggest domestic trophies, they suffered the disappointment of relegation from the NPFL, forcing the club to begin a rebuilding process ahead of the new campaign.

The former coach has now been handed the responsibility of leading the club’s promotion bid, with an immediate return to the Nigerian top flight identified as the club’s primary objective.

In addition to their domestic ambitions, Emmanuel will also oversee El-Kanemi Warriors’ campaign in the 2026/27 CAF Confederation Cup, a place they secured by winning the President Federation Cup.

The unique challenge means the Maiduguri club will compete in Africa while playing in the Nigeria National League (NNL), making squad depth and consistency crucial throughout the season.

Club officials believe Emmanuel possesses the experience required to guide the team through the demands of both competitions while restoring the club to the NPFL at the first attempt.

His appointment signals a fresh chapter for the Borno Army as they seek to transform last season’s disappointment into a successful campaign on both the domestic and continental fronts.

With expectations high among supporters, all eyes will be on Emmanuel to lead the Confederation Cup campaigners back to Nigeria’s top flight while ensuring they make a positive impression on the African stage.
