Al-Nassr president Abdullah Al-Majed steps down after title-winning spell
Abdullah Al-Majed has confirmed he is leaving his role as president of Al-Nassr after the end of his official term, just hours after Al-Ahli counterpart Khaled Al-Ghamdi also decided to vacate his position.
Al-Majed announced his departure on his personal account on X, stating he did not wish to continue under the automatic extension mechanism of the club’s corporate structure, citing work commitments.
His exit comes in the wake of reports that Khaled Al-Ghamdi has chosen to leave the presidency of Al-Ahli in order to stand for the top job at the Saudi Arabian Football Federation, where he would seek to succeed former president Yasser Al-Misehal.
Al-Majed wrote on X: “ان كان للاندية محبين، فان للنصر عشاقا؛ لا تتغير مكانته في قلوبهم بتغير مواقعهم”.
He continued: “اليوم، اترك كرسي الرياسة بعد انتهاء الفترة النظامية، وعدم رغبتي بالاستمرار في فترة التمديد التلقايي لنظام الشركات؛ لظروفي العملية”.
Title secured before exit
In his farewell message, Al-Majed reflected on his two seasons in charge, during which Al-Nassr claimed the Saudi Pro League title, known as the Roshn Saudi League, ending a seven-year wait for the championship.
He said: “عشت فترة ساحمل ذكرياتها التي لا تنسى، ولحظاتها الخالدة وتحدياتها المعلنة والخفية، توجت في نهايتها بتحقيق الدوري الاصعب”.
Al-Majed also paid tribute to supporters and colleagues throughout the club’s structure, highlighting what he described as a period marked by loyalty and commitment.
He added: “الشكر لله اولا واخرا، ثم لكم انتم جمهور الوفاء الذي صبر فظفر، اشكر زملايي في مجلس الادارة، واعضاء الشرف، والاجهزة الفنية، والادارية، واللاعبين، وجميع اللجان والمجالس على جهودهم خلال فترة كانت مليية بقصص الوفاء والانتماء”.
Return to the stands
Al-Majed stressed that, despite leaving the presidency, he would remain closely attached to the club as a fan, promising that the voting rights he holds for the next board elections would effectively be placed in the hands of Al-Nassr supporters.
He said: “اعود للمدرج الاصفر كما كنت، اما الاصوات التي املكها لترشيح الادارة القادمة، فستكون ملكا لجمهور النصر، وسادعم اي مرشح ترون انه خيارا مثاليا للنادي، والاكيد بانني الداعم الاول لكل من سيخدم الكيان النصراوي”.
Structural changes under discussion
Al-Majed’s decision comes against a backdrop of reports suggesting there is a move to abolish the position of president of the non-profit institutions at Al-Nassr, Al-Ahli and Al-Ittihad.
These three clubs are owned by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, and, according to those reports, their non-profit entities are expected to be put up for sale in the coming period.
Al-Majed assumed the presidency of Al-Nassr two seasons ago and oversaw the club’s return to the summit of the domestic league, clinching the Roshn Saudi League title after a seven-year absence from the trophy.
