Hakeem Busari applauds Flamingos WAFU-B triumph ahead of World Cup campaign
Nigeria’s Flamingos head coach Hakeem Busari has reflected on his team’s successful WAFU B U-17 Girls Cup campaign after guiding the young side to a commanding 4-0 victory over Togo in the final.
The Flamingos enjoyed a perfect run throughout the competition, recording five consecutive victories on their way to lifting the title.
Speaking after the final, Busari praised the tournament for providing young players across the continent with an opportunity to showcase their talents, gain experience and learn from competitive football.
“The memory we will keep in our minds is that this competition is for the youth within the continent, trying to showcase what they have, and everyone has shown their differences,” Busari said.
Despite the emphatic victory, the coach stressed that there is still considerable room for improvement and noted that Nigeria must continue developing as other participating nations strengthen their teams.
“We still want to work more, just like other countries will also work as well, because in football, there is a place for strong points and outright deficiencies as well,” he added.
For Busari, winning the competition represents an important milestone, but the continued development of the players remains a key priority.
“It is a good one that we won, but we will never rest because the game is about learning and learning,” the Flamingos coach stated.
The coach also thanked the organisers for providing the platform and called for the competition to continue, emphasising its importance to the development of women’s football and the wider growth of the game in Africa.
According to Busari, regular competitions at youth level can give players valuable exposure and competitive experience while helping prepare them for bigger challenges in the future.
With the Flamingos crowned WAFU B U-17 Girls champions after an unbeaten campaign, Busari’s focus now shifts beyond the celebrations plus Women’s World Cup, with continued learning, improvement and player development remaining at the heart of the team’s progress.
