Future Eagles set to depart Nigeria for FIFA U-15 World Cup on Wednesday

Nigeria’s Future Eagles are scheduled to depart the country on Wednesday night for the 2026 FIFA U-15 World Cup and Festival in Baku, Azerbaijan.

The Nigerian delegation will leave through the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja aboard a flight scheduled to take off at 9:30 p.m. The team will make a connecting stop in Türkiye before continuing their journey to Azerbaijan.

The departure marks the start of Nigeria’s campaign at the youth football festival, which offers emerging talents from different countries an opportunity to compete internationally and gain valuable experience.

The Future Eagles will be led by head coach Patrick Bassey, who has been overseeing the team’s preparations ahead of the tournament. The Nigerian youngsters will be aiming to make a strong impression against their international counterparts.

Nigeria have been drawn in Group AD alongside South Sudan, Jordan, The Gambia, Cyprus and Pakistan. The team face a busy group-stage schedule as they seek to advance in the competition.

The tournament will run from October 22 to 31, 2026, in Baku and will feature an eight-a-side format, with matches played over two 20-minute halves.

Beyond the competitive aspect, the festival is designed to promote the development of young footballers by exposing them to different football cultures and creating opportunities to interact with players from other countries.

For Nigeria, the competition represents an opportunity to assess the country’s emerging football talents and strengthen its youth development programme. Participation could also provide the players with valuable international exposure and a better understanding of the demands of football at the global level.

The Future Eagles will hope their preparations pay off as they begin their campaign in Azerbaijan, with their arrival and final preparations expected to be important ahead of their opening fixture.

Nigeria will be targeting strong performances throughout the tournament as they seek to navigate the group stage and progress in the competition.
