Nigeria, Benin Republic submit joint bid to host 2025 AFCON – Report

The Nigerian Football Federation, NFF and their counterpart from Benin Football Federation, FBF have successfully submitted their indication of interest to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, NigeriaFootball.ng learnt.
After months of speculations on the joint bid by both federations, the West African countries have joined forces together to host Africa’s biggest international football tourney.
Though, both countries are yet to make their bid official, the brief about their intentions wad disclosed by president of the Algerian Football Federation, FAF on Friday.
According to Salah Bey Aboud, he said:”I am currently in Cairo and I have just officially submitted Algeria’s candidacy file for AFCON 2025.
“Nigeria and Benin have submitted a joint file in addition to the Moroccan file.”
The closing date for submitting applications is set for this Friday, December 16, 2022. South Africa, Senegal and Zambia are the other candidates to formalize their candidacy.
As indicated by CAF, member associations wishing to host the competition will have until December 16 to submit the final offer, which includes all the application and organization documents (organisation agreement, with the host cities, government guarantees), while the inspection visits will take place between January 5 and 25, 2023.
The deliberation by the CAF Executive Committee will then vote to announce the country or countries selected to host the competition on February 10, 2023.
Guinea were the original hosts of the 2025 AFCON before the right were withdrawn from them by CAF seven months ago.
