Flamingos set to receive U17 Women’s World Cup bonus, says Ibrahim Gusau

President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau has reassured players and officials of the bronze-winning U-17 Women’s World Cup squad to get their bonuses paid in coming days.
The Flamingos won bronze at India 2022 last October where they defeated Germany to become the first set of the U17 team to reach the semifinal of the tournament and first to brought home medal.
The squad have been agitating for the payment of their match bonuses from the Federation. However, the President has stated that he is doing everything possible to ensure that the players are paid all the money owed to them.
Gusau who was barely a month in office as NFF president when the Flamingos did the nation proud at the World Cup at the forefront of the support group when the team tackled Colombia in the semi-finals.
“We are quite aware of the fact that we are owing them and I can assure them that they will get paid as soon as possible. The Minister of Youth and Sports is working hard to ensureThe President has stated that he is doing everything possible to ensure that the players are paid all the money owed to them. that the money meant for the team’s bonuses and allowances are released by the ministry of finance,” the NFF president stated.
“No money was given to NFF to prosecute the African qualifying matches up to the World Cup proper. We sourced funds that enabled the Flamingos to participate in the World Cup and we were also able to offset their daily allowances and other expenses. They should be patient and trust us to get their money, the process is not easy that is the cause of the delay.”
Meanwhile, the team received a sum of three million naira promised to them by the Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa for being the first African team to reach the semifinal of a FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup tournament.
The NFF boss further expressed optimism that the Honourable Minister of Youth and Sports Development will fulfil his promise to arrange for the girls to be given a deserving reception by the Federal Government.
