Sunday Akinmoladun tasks Niger Tornadoes ahead of Bayelsa United’s visit
By Wale Mustapha
Captain of Niger Tornadoes, Sunday Akinmoladun has expressed dissatisfaction on his team’s recent performance in the Nigeria Premier Football League this season, and is urging his teammates to brace up before their subsequent games.
Tornadoes’ decent start to the new abridged season has nosedived recently which has seen them dropped deeper on the Group B log, with Sunday’s 2-0 loss to Sunshine Stars in Akure.
Irked by their recent slip up, the captain feels his side need to refocus to avoid relegation by bracing up for must win outings in their subsequent games, beginning at home against Bayelsa United and Dakkada FC.
“Winning our next two matches before the break is a must, starting from the visit of Bayelsa United on Wednesday,” Akinmoladun told Nigeriafootball.ng.
“It is everyone’s knowledge that we started the season very well with victory in Bauchi which was followed by a home win against Doma United, but since then, we have been struggling to regain back our form.
“The coaches are doing their best, the players too, but this time around we must be up and doing to avoid last season’s scenario when the battled for safety up till the last couple of games to end the season.
“The two home draws against Rangers Int’l and Lobi Stars have no doubts affected our standing in the Group B, but not withstanding, we must get back to winning ways, starting from the mid-week game.
“We must not allow this dwindling form affect our performance, hope is not lost, even though it is an abridged season with few number of matches,” he concluded.
The Ikon Allah Boys have scored four goals and conceded five so far as they are in sixth place on the log with eight points after seven matches.
