Revelation Cup: Super Falcons condemned to seventh consecutive defeat by Colombia

Nigeria women’s national team suffered its second defeat at the maiden Revelation Cup in Leon, Mexico following a 1-0 defeat to Colombia on Saturday.
The nine-time African champions had lost 1-0 to hosts Mexico in the opening match which was its sixth consecutive defeat since its 1-0 win over Cameroon at WAFCON 2022.
Linda Caicedo’s ninth-minute goal was all the Women’s World Cup-bound South Americans required to silence the struggling Randy Waldrum’s side at the Leon Stadium.
The Super Falcons made a promising start to the match as Esther Okoronkwo had the first chance of the match for Nigeria by her headed effort went wide.
Caicedo, however capitalised on an uncoordinated defensive display to fire the Colombians ahead in the ninth minute.
in the 24th minute, Rasheedat Ajibade tried a long-range effort but keeper Katherine Tapia was at her best for an easy save.
After the interval, Nigeria goalkeeperChiamaka Nnadozie pulled up some superb saves to make the scoreline respectable.
She was at her best at the hour mark to deny the Colombians as The Paris FC shots topper came to the rescue again in the 70th minute as she was fully alerted to halt substitute Chacon’s six-yard effort.
With its seventh straight defeat, Nigeria will next face Costa Rica in its last game of the maiden Revelation Cup.
Costa Rica and Mexico played out a 1-1 draw in both teams’ first match of the tourney.
