Victor Osimhen breaks more Italian Serie A record after winning Serie A golden boot

Napoli and Nigeria striker Victor Osimhen has become the first-ever African player to win the Golden Boot in Serie A.
The Super Eagles striker helped Napoli win their first Scudetto in 33 years, sealing his name in the history books of the Partenopei.
Osimhen recorded 26 goals to win the golden boot award, also known as the ‘Capocannoniere,’ edging out competition from Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez to land the coveted individual accolade.
The 24-year-old finished five goals ahead of his closest challenger, Inter’s Lautaro Martinez, to win the first Serie A golden boot of his career, becoming the first Napoli player to win the award since Gonzalo Higuain in 2016, and only the fourth in Partenopei history after Diego Maradona, Edison Cavani, and Higuain.
His impressive goal-scoring record increased following his goal in Napoli’s 2-0 win over Sampdoria in yesterday’s Serie A final league match.
No player from the top five European leagues has scored more league goals in 2023 than the Nigerian. He has 17 league goals tied with Lyon’s Alexandre Lacazette and Tottenham’s Harry Kane.
