Remo Stars Relegated From NPFL One Season After Historic Title Triumph

Remo Stars F.C. have been relegated to the Nigeria National League following a 1-1 draw against Bendel Insurance F.C. at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium on Matchday 38 of the Nigeria Premier Football League season.

The relegation completes a dramatic fall for the Sky Blue Stars, who only last season celebrated their historic 2024/2025 NPFL title success. However, a difficult campaign marked by instability, recruitment struggles, and off-field setbacks ultimately saw the club drop into the second tier.

One of the major reasons behind Remo Stars’ decline was the departure of several influential members of their title-winning squad.

The exits of Nduka Junior, Tochukwu Michael, Sodiq Ismail, Seun Ogunribide, and Sikiru Alimi left significant gaps within the team.

The absence of experienced and reliable performers affected the squad’s balance and reduced the overall quality available throughout the season.

Despite losing several important players, the club struggled to secure adequate replacements capable of maintaining the standards of the championship-winning side.

A lack of experienced additions and limited squad depth became increasingly evident as injuries, fatigue, and inconsistency affected performances during the campaign.

Uncertainty within the technical department also contributed to the club’s struggles.

Questions surrounding the future and availability of long-serving coach Daniel Ogunmodede created instability within the squad, while the eventual appointment of Usman Abd’Allah as technical adviser disrupted continuity and coincided with inconsistent results.

Earlier in the campaign, Remo Stars adopted the MKO Abiola Sports Arena as their temporary home ground for the first half of the season.

The move reduced the strong backing usually provided by supporters in Ikenne and weakened the home advantage that had previously been central to the club’s success.

The club’s difficulties worsened after they were suspended from hosting matches in Ikenne following an incident involving the damaged bus of Ikorodu City F.C.

As a result, Remo Stars were forced to play home fixtures in Ibadan and Benin, where they struggled to achieve positive results.

The continued disruptions ultimately compounded an already challenging season and played a major role in the club’s relegation from the NPFL.
